About This Grass
Tall Fescue is a robust, deep-rooted cool-season grass with a medium-to-coarse texture. It forms a dense, upright turf with vibrant medium-to-dark green color that persists well into winter. When unmowed, it can grow up to 2-4 feet tall, featuring open, panicle-type seed heads.
Blade Characteristics
Blades are medium-to-coarse in width (4-8mm), flat with prominent parallel veins on the upper surface and a shiny underside. Tip is pointed. Vernation is rolled in the bud. The ligule is a short membranous band, auricles are small and blunt or absent.
Root System
Extremely deep root system (often reaching 2-4 feet or more), which provides superior drought tolerance compared to other cool-season grasses. Forms a moderately dense sod from tillers and occasional short rhizomes, with medium-low thatch accumulation and fast initial establishment from seed.
