About This Grass
Tall Fescue forms a relatively dense, upright turf with a medium-to-coarse texture. Unmowed, it can reach heights of 2 to 4 feet, but when maintained as a lawn, it forms a deep green, uniform canopy. It has good heat and drought tolerance compared to other cool-season grasses, maintaining its green color well into summer and winter.
Blade Characteristics
Blades are medium-to-coarse in width (4-8mm), flat with prominent parallel veins on the upper surface and a shiny underside. Tip shape is pointed. Vernation is rolled in the bud. The ligule is a short membrane, and auricles are blunt and clasping (though often small or absent on vegetative shoots).

Deep root system, often extending 2 to 3 feet or more into the soil profile, which grants it superior drought tolerance compared to shallow-rooted cool-season grasses. Moderate thatch-forming tendency and moderate establishment speed from seed.
