About This Grass
Forms a moderately dense, upright turf with a medium-to-coarse texture and a rich dark green color. Unmowed height reaches 2 to 4 feet with panicle seed heads, while maintained turf is kept at 2 to 3 inches. Exhibits good heat and drought tolerance compared to other cool-season grasses.
Blade Characteristics
Blades are medium-to-coarse in width (4-8mm), flat with prominent parallel veins on the upper surface and a smooth, shiny underside. Tip is sharply pointed. Vernation is rolled in the bud. Ligule is a very short membrane, auricles are absent, and the collar is broad and distinct.
Root System
Deep root system, extending down 2 to 3 feet or more in favorable soils. Fibrous roots with minimal thatch-forming tendencies. Establishes moderately quickly from seed and provides excellent drought avoidance and good wear recovery.

Sunlight & Water Needs
