About This Grass
Tall Fescue is a deep-rooted bunchgrass forming a relatively coarse to medium-textured turf. When unmoved, it can grow up to 2-4 feet tall, but when maintained as a lawn, it forms a dense, upright turf with a rich, dark green color that persists well into the cooler months.
Blade Characteristics
Blades are medium-coarse in width (4-8mm), flat with prominent parallel veins on the upper surface and a shiny underside. Leaf buds are rolled (vernation). The auricles are absent, and the ligule is a very short, membranous fringe. Tips are sharply pointed.
Root System
Extremely deep root system going down 2 to 3 feet or more, which provides exceptional drought tolerance. Low to moderate thatch-forming tendency, establishes quickly from seed, and forms a strong, durable sod.
