About This Grass
Forms a moderately coarse, upright, bunch-type turf of deep green color. Height ranges from 2 to 4 inches when maintained as a lawn, but can grow up to 3 to 4 feet if left unmowed. Features prominent vertical growth with coarse, slightly ribbed blades and an open panicle seed head at maturity.
Blade Characteristics
Blades are medium-coarse (4-8 mm wide), flat, with pointed tips and prominent parallel veins. Vernation is rolled in the bud. Ligule is a very short membranous ring, and auricles are typically absent or blunt.
Root System
Deep fibrous root system going down several feet, providing exceptional drought tolerance. Establishes moderately fast from seed, forms a dense sod primarily through tillering, with low to moderate thatch-forming tendencies.
