About This Grass
Forms a moderately dense, upright turf with a bunching habit. Unmowed height reaches 2 to 4 feet, while maintained turf is kept between 2 and 3.5 inches. Color is rich medium to dark green with good seasonal retention. Texture is medium-coarse compared to bluegrass or fine fescue. Seed heads are open panicles appearing in late spring.
Blade Characteristics
Blades are medium-coarse in width (2-6 mm), flat, with pointed tips and prominent parallel veins giving a ribbed upper surface. Vernation is rolled in the bud. Ligule is a short membrane, auricles are absent, and the collar is broad and distinct.
