About This Grass
Forms a moderately dense, upright turf with medium to coarse texture and a deep green color. Height ranges from 2 to 4 inches when maintained as a lawn, but can grow up to 3 to 4 feet if left unmowed. Features prominent upright tillers and open panicle seed heads at maturity.
Blade Characteristics
Blades are medium to coarse in width (4-8mm), flat with prominent parallel veins and a rough texture on the margins. Leaf tips are pointed. Vernation is rolled in the bud. Ligule is a very short membrane, and auricles are absent or blunt.
Root System
Deeply rooted (often 2 to 3 feet or more), fibrous root system. Low thatch-forming tendency, moderate establishment speed from seed. Deep roots provide superior drought tolerance compared to many other cool-season grasses.
