About This Grass
Forms a moderately dense, upright turf with a medium-coarse texture. Unmowed height can reach 2 to 4 feet with open, panicled seed heads. Color ranges from medium to dark green, with good color retention into late fall and mild winters.
Blade Characteristics
Medium to coarse width (4-8mm), flat with prominent parallel veins on the upper surface and a shiny underside. Tips are pointed. Vernation is rolled in the bud. Ligule is a short, membranous collar with small auricles often absent or blunt.
Root System
Extremely deep root system (often 2 to 3 feet or more), which provides superior drought tolerance compared to other cool-season grasses. Moderate thatch tendency, moderate to fast establishment from seed.
