About This Grass
Forms a moderately dense, coarse-textured bunch-type turf with an upright growth habit. Bright medium-green to dark-green color. Mowed height is typically maintained at 2.5 to 4 inches, while unmowed growth can reach 2 to 3 feet with open, panicle-type seed heads.
Blade Characteristics
Blades are medium-to-coarse in width (4-8mm), flat with prominent parallel veins on the upper surface and a shiny keel underneath. Tips are sharply pointed. Vernation is rolled in the bud. The ligule is a short membranous collar, and auricles are blunt or absent.
Root System
Extremely deep root system (often reaching 2 to 4 feet or deeper), making it highly drought-tolerant. Low thatch-forming tendency, moderate establishment speed from seed, and forms a strong, deep sod.
