About This Grass
Forms a dense, medium-to-coarse textured turf with a vibrant medium-green color. Mowed height is typically 2.5 to 3.5 inches, while unmowed height can reach 2 to 4 feet with open, panicle-type seed heads. Retains green color well into autumn and withstands summer heat better than many cool-season grasses.
Blade Characteristics
Blades are medium-to-coarse in width (4-6 mm), flat with prominent parallel veins on the upper surface and a shiny underside. Tip is pointed. Vernation is rolled in the bud. Features a membranous, short ligule and small, blunt auricles that clasp the stem.
Root System
Extremely deep root system, often growing 2 to 3 feet deep into the soil. Fibrous roots with minimal thatch-forming tendencies. Provides excellent drought avoidance and good wear recovery, though slower to self-repair than spreading sod-formers.
