About This Grass
Tall Fescue is a robust, deep-rooted cool-season grass known for its dark green color, coarse to medium texture, and high durability. When unmowed, it can grow up to 2-4 feet tall, but when maintained as a lawn, it forms a dense, upright turf typically kept at 2.5 to 4 inches. It retains its green color well into autumn and winter compared to other cool-season grasses.
Blade Characteristics
Blades are medium-to-coarse in width (4-8mm), flat with prominent parallel veins and a rough (scabrous) texture along the margins. The tip is distinctly pointed. Vernation is rolled in the bud. The ligule is a very short, membranous collar ring with small or absent auricles.
Root System
Deep fibrous root system extending 2 to 3 feet or more into the soil profile. Provides exceptional drought tolerance and moderate-to-good wear recovery. Establishes relatively quickly from seed.
