About This Grass
Forms a relatively coarse, upright, dense turf with a medium-to-dark green color. Unmowed height can reach 2 to 3 feet, while maintained turf is kept around 2.5 to 4 inches. Displays good heat and drought tolerance compared to other cool-season grasses, maintaining color well into summer.
Blade Characteristics
Blades are medium to coarse in width (4-8mm), flat with prominent parallel veins on the upper surface and a shiny underside. Tips are pointed. Vernation is rolled in the bud. Ligule is a very short membrane, and auricles are blunt and clasping.
Root System
Deep root system (often reaching 2 to 3 feet or more into the soil), making it exceptionally drought-resistant for a cool-season grass. Low thatch-forming tendency, moderate-to-fast establishment from seed, and forms a strong, tough sod.
