About This Grass
Tall Fescue forms a moderately coarse, upright lawn with a rich medium-to-dark green color. Unmowed, it can grow up to 2-4 feet tall, but when maintained as a turf it forms a uniform, dense canopy. Leaves have a slightly rough texture and good year-round color retention.
Blade Characteristics
Blades are medium-to-coarse in width (4-8mm), flat with prominent parallel veins on the upper surface, and a shiny undersurface. Vernation is rolled in the bud. Tips are pointed. Ligule is a short membranous band, auricles are small and blunt or absent.
Root System
Deep, extensive fibrous root system (often reaching 2-3 feet or more into the soil), providing excellent drought tolerance and moderate-to-good wear recovery. Forms a moderately dense sod with low-to-moderate thatch tendency.
