About This Grass
Forms a dense, medium-to-coarse textured turf with upright growth. Maintains a deep green color year-round in moderate climates. Height when unmowed reaches 2 to 4 feet, but maintained at 2 to 3.5 inches in lawns. Seed heads are open, branching panicles.
Blade Characteristics
Blades are medium-to-coarse in width (4-8mm), flat with prominent parallel veins on the upper surface and a shiny underside. Tip is sharply pointed. Vernation is rolled in the bud. Ligule is a very short membrane. Auricles are small, blunt, and clasping.
Root System
Extremely deep root system (often reaching 2 to 3 feet or more), highly fibrous. Establishes relatively quickly from seed, exhibits low-to-moderate thatch tendency, and provides exceptional drought tolerance due to deep roots.
