About This Grass
Forms a relatively coarse, deep-green, dense turf with upright growth. Height when unmoved reaches 2 to 4 feet, but maintained lawns are typically kept between 2.5 and 4 inches. Displays good wear resistance and stays green longer into drought and heat than many other cool-season grasses.
Blade Characteristics
Blades are medium-to-coarse in width (4-8mm), flat with prominent parallel veins on the upper surface and smooth underneath. Tip is sharply pointed. Vernation is rolled in the bud. Ligule is a short membranous fringe, and auricles are absent or very blunt.
Root System
Deep root system extending up to 2 to 3 feet or more into the soil profile. Fibrous and robust roots provide excellent drought tolerance and moderate recovery, though thatch accumulation is minimal.
